When you also consider the suppliers and secondary job creation, the industry supports nearly two million jobs across the U.S. paying more than $130 billion in wages and benefits. From energy to infrastructure to defense, industry sectors that are critical to U.S. national economic security depend on a strong American steel industry.
Did you Know? Steelworkers’ wages are among the highest in the U.S. manufacturing sector, averaging nearly $90,000 a year. (source: BLS) On average, the U.S. steel industry also pays 27% more than the median earnings for men and 58% more than the median earnings for women. Source: EPI study
